to theme or not to theme
finley is turning 9 months old this week (what?!), and so i’m starting to think about first birthday ideas. (no, not too soon.)
i’m debating between doing a “favorite book” theme, or doing away with a theme and just making everything cute and pretty. i’ve never been a big theme-er (not really my style.) but i figure once you become a mom that’s one of the things you can get away with – theme-ing things. my idea is to theme her birthday around her favorite book from the first year of her life. (chicka chicka boom boom). i also like this because we could potentially continue it every year, and do a birthday party centered around her favorite book from the year of however old she is.
but then i’m like, is this stupid? corny? hard to keep up with? will she roll her eyes and just be like “CAAAAAAKE!!!!” or will she like it and think it’s fun. will i do like three book themes in a row and stall out and then regret ever starting it? am i thinking way too hard about this? (YES.)
so here is what i’m working with for the theme idea:
(the first pic is a t-shirt design i could have made and have her wear)

and here is more along the lines of just a simple cute decorated party:

what do you think?! i can name at least 18 people who read this blog so i expect you to comment. no, i will not take your advice (definitely not my style.) but maybe i will! you never know.

I think a theme could help structure your planning a little more – gives the party a specific focus for the invites, decor, cake etc. and before you know it, Little Fin will be telling you what theme she wants for her birthday
… I love the favorite book theme.
I vote no theme…
With a themed element? Like maybe the cake?
I vote no theme….save the money and effort for when Finley can actually choose it and/or remember it!
Honest opinion, book theme=adorable and she’ll grow up and appreciate how much thought you put into something like (a birthday party). We all make fun of my mom of going all out, but deep down inside we love every single moment of it. With that being said, doing a book theme every single year is a little much unless that’s what she’ll like and be most attracted to. I’m no parent- just an opinionated teen and when I was little I LOVED picking out themes to my party’s. don’t pressure yourself into a timeline cause as she gets older I’m sure fin will lean towards Themes that she likes
both ideas are super cute. Love that book: childhood favorite an classic. It’s totally age appropriate but the “classier/traditional” theme is cute too. Hope this obnoxiously long comment helps. Xo
